It's true that our parents can only do their best. My story is not uncommon, especially for the time in which I grew up; the 1970's. People didn't realize the damaging affects of an abusive environment. I'm glad to say that since we know better now, we do better...well some of us anyway. Use my story as a tool for learning what parents should NOT do to their children.
At 40-something years old, I realized the root cause of my unhappiness was my need to please others. I had a disease and it was killing me. People-pleasers are terrified of saying "NO" to anyone. People-pleasers have an insatiable need to be liked and live for hearing the words "You're so nice". This is my story of the moment I realized I had an addiction and what I did to start changing my life.
